Donald Glenwood Cleghorn was a pilot with 439 Squadron. He was originally from Durham Bridge, New Brunswick. He passed away in Toronto, Ontario. He was married to Pearl, who predeceased him in 1999.
Based upon D.G. Cleghorn’s Record of Service page in his Pilots Logbook, he remained with No. 128 Sqn until May 22/44 following a posting to No. 1 “Y” Depot at Lachine, QC. Based upon F/O Walter Dove’s record of service, D.G. Cleghorn was likely posted to E.A.C. H.Q. upon disbandment of No. 128 Sqn on March 15, 1944. No. 1 “Y” Depot at Lachine, QC. followed by and overseas crossing from Halifax, N.S. to Liverpool, U.K. aboard the H.M.T. Andes, June 1 to June 10 1944.
Posting IN: "B.78 Holland 5.12.44 Two operations were carried out today as well as a sector recce, the latter was for the familiarization of new pilots which arrived this morning. They are J.28164 F/O J.L Harrison of Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. J.37029 F/O A.H. Fraser of Westmount, Que. and J.23864 F/O D.G. Cleghorn of York Co., N.B. This makes our pilots strength 23 now."
Typhoon MN581 - 2 Apr 1945 – Hit by Flak - Force landed Nordhorn Germany and captured. [He became a POW.]
B.100 – Germany Apr 2/45 – J.23864 F/L D.G. Cleghorn is missing from an operation today as explained in the 541, but with the rapid Army advance we expect to see Don in a few days time. His operational record to date is 59 sorties, 63:45 operational hours and a total of 650:20 flying hours.
FO. D.G. Cleghorn flew 59 combat ops between 11-Dec-1944 (first ops) to 2-Apr-1945 (last ops) with No. 439 Sqn.
